Devin Harjes, best known for appearing on episodes of Boardwalk Empire, Daredevil, Gotham and Manifest, died on Tuesday, May 27, according to an obituary shared via his website. He was 41.
Harjes died at Mount Sinai West hospital in New York City after complications from his battle with cancer, Us Weekly can confirm. He was diagnosed this past winter..
Harjes has appeared in countless TV series over the years, including his most recent role as Pete Baylor in Manifest. He also played Jack Dempsey in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, Rikers Island nurse Oscar in Marvel’s Daredevil and bank guard Clyde in DC’s Gotham.
Harjes’ additional acting credits include shows Orange Is the New Black, Blue Bloods, FBI and Elementary, and films Rebel in the Rye and The Forest Is Red.

Harjes was born on July 29, 1983, in Lubbock, Texas, and launched his career in the Dallas–Fort Worth theatre scene, according to his website. He moved to NYC to pursue an acting career, which led to work in off-Broadway shows and student films. He also received an Honorable Mention for Best Supporting Actor at the Long Island International Film Expo for his work in 2012’s Boyz of Summer.
Several of Harjes’ loved ones have offered their condolences in the wake of his death.
“Terribly sad news as we lost Devin Harjes, an amazing actor and friend,” Boyz of Summer director and writer Antonio DiFonzo wrote via Facebook on Friday, May 30. “He was constantly striving to be better and put his heart and soul into everything he did! We will never forget you and your amazing part in The Boyz of Summer and our lives. Rest in peace, Lion Heart!”

Family and friends have also shared personal photos on Harjes’ website and, in lieu of flowers, asked for donations to be made to TKC Blessings in the actor’s name, with all proceeds supporting scholarships for children pursuing the arts.
“Outside of acting, Devin was a dedicated student of martial arts and a regular at the gym — he often joked it was safer than getting kicked in the face by a horse,” his obituary read.
Harjes is survived by his parents, Randy and Rosanne Harjes, sister Trish Harjes and her husband, Justin Kelley, nephews Tristin and Sawyer Kelley, nieces Rory and Charly Kelley, and his ex-wife, Shiva Shobitha.
