Divisi presents “Time Is… A Choral Concert Reflecting on Time, Nature, and the Human Spirit”

The contemporary choral ensemble Divisi invites audiences to an evocative evening of music and poetry in their upcoming concert, Time Is… — a program that explores the beauty, burden, and brevity of time. This immersive choral experience will take place:

Friday, June 6 at 7 p.m.

St. Saviour’s Episcopal Church

41 Mt. Desert St., Bar Harbor, ME

Saturday, June 7 at 6 p.m.

St. John’s Episcopal Church

225 French St., Bangor, ME

Suggested donation: $15

Curated and conducted by Molly J. Webster, the program features contemporary settings of poetry by writers including Emily Dickinson, Sara Teasdale and Francis Ledwidge, brought to life through the works of acclaimed composers like Susan LaBarr, Frank Ticheli, Jacob Narverud, Jennifer Lucy Cooka nd Bryan Sharpe.

Each piece invites listeners into a distinct moment in time—moments that shimmer with beauty, ache with memory, and pulse with urgency:

“August” (Jacob Narverud) and “Sweetheart of the Sun” (Eric William Barnum) capture fleeting summer light and the delicate threshold between abundance and loss.

“I Should Be Glad” (Susan LaBarr) reflects the tension between nature’s renewal and personal grief, reminding us that healing does not always arrive on schedule.

“Intro (It’s You)” (Krishan Oberoi) and “Time” (Jennifer Lucy Cook) tackle time’s cyclical nature and the restless energy of modern life with rhythmic drive and poetic nuance.

“Here, Take This Lovely Flower” (Frank Ticheli) offers a gentle meditation on simplicity and enduring love through a Shaker lens.

“I Had No Time to Hate” (Gerda Blok-Wilson) sets Dickinson’s haunting reflection on mortality and emotional urgency to a poignant and resonant choral texture.

The concert concludes with “Alleluia” by Bryan Sharpe—an exuberant, uplifting celebration that transcends words and honors the sacredness of time itself.

Pianist Jack LaGasse joins the ensemble as accompanist.

“Time Is… is a concert about presence,” says Artistic Director and Founder Molly J. Webster. “Each piece calls us to notice the world around us, reflect on our place within it, and cherish what is here now—before it slips away.”

Divisi is known for its commitment to performing contemporary choral works that are emotionally resonant and intellectually rich. Join them for an unforgettable evening where music, poetry, and presence converge.
