Four county jails across Maine are launching the state’s first electronic victim notification service.
That will allow victims, witnesses and their families to know whenever an inmate is released from the custody of the Penobscot, Aroostook and Somerset county jails as well as Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset, which serves Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties.
The Maine Sheriffs’ Association announced the new pilot program Friday.
“Currently, Maine stands out as the only state in the nation without any form of electronic victim notification services. This initiative has been a priority for our association, and we have been working diligently to bring it to life,” the sheriffs association said Friday.
The service is available for free.
People can register for the service by visiting VINELink.com, calling 1-866-358-0005, or downloading the VINELink mobile app.
