Italy’s Princess Maria Carolina of Bourbon-Two Sicilies said she’s lucky to be alive after a scary motorcycle injury.
“I’m incredibly lucky to be alive. I crashed headfirst into a wall whilst riding a motorcycle and ended up in [a coma] in the Intensive Care Unit. Surviving this was nothing short of a miracle,” Maria Carolina, 21, shared with her 170,000 Instagram followers on Wednesday, May 28, alongside photos of her on her motorcycle, clad in biker leathers, as well as photos taken inside her hospital room.
The princess, who is the Duchess of Calabria and Palermo in Sicily in southern Italy, said her injuries could have been a lot worse had she not been wearing a helmet.
“I wanted to share my own experience as I’ve realized now more than ever that motorcycles are powerful and thrilling, but also unforgiving,” Maria Carolina wrote. “Please ride with care. Wear full protection, especially a proper helmet. Mine saved my life.”

The Italian royal concluded her post by thanking the hospital staff and first responders who attended to her after her accident.
She wrote, “My deepest thanks to the outstanding team at Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace for their expert care during those critical days, and to the emergency medical team and first responders on the scene, whose quick and decisive actions in those first moments made all the difference 
.”
Maria Carolina is the eldest daughter of Italian aristocrat Prince Carlo, the Duke of Castro, and his wife, Camilla Crociani. She has a younger sister, Princess Maria Chiara of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, who is 20 and is also the Duchess of Noto and Capri.

In 2014, Maria Carolina made a cameo appearance in the Grace Kelly biopic Grace of Monaco starring Nicole Kidman.
The princess made her society debut at the prestigious Le Bal des Débutantes in Paris in 2019. She was escorted by Prince Léopold of Nassau, the son of Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg.
