Elon Musk is leaving his role in the Trump administration.
The billionaire thanked US President Donald Trump – and said he was stepping down as his “scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end”.
The Tesla owner – who led the Department of Government Efficiency – said he was thankful “for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending”.
“The DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government,” Musk wrote on X.
A White House official, who requested anonymity to talk about the change, confirmed to AP that Mr Musk was leaving.
Mr Musk’s “off boarding will begin tonight (Wednesday evening)”, Reuters news agency reported – citing a White House official.
It comes one day after Mr Musk criticised the centrepiece of Mr Trump’s legislative agenda, saying he was “disappointed” by what the president calls his “big beautiful bill”.
