A Bangor-based law firm is closing its doors in Bangor, Portland and Augusta after 85 years of service.
Eaton Peabody is set to close up shop on June 30, the law firm announced Thursday morning. The business has served its clients since 1939 and was the sixth-largest firm in Maine in the past decade.
The decision to close its offices and transition its lawyers and client work to other firms comes after careful consideration of the evolving market conditions and the demographics of the firm, according to a press release.
“We are proud of the long history of client service and community involvement, and the relationships we’ve built over the history of this firm,” said Mike Hodgins, managing partner. “This was not an easy decision, but one based on our attorneys’ desire to continue providing excellent legal services to our strong and loyal client base.”
A group of eight lawyers left Eaton Peabody in January to start Viridian Law in Ellsworth. The attorneys said they left because they felt they could do their work without the management from the Bangor office.
Current Eaton Peabody clients will be transitioned with their lawyers to other firms over the next month.
