Dianna Agron is taking the internet by storm thanks to her unexpected new accent.
In a recent video with Vanity Fair, Agron, 39, was seen getting ready for Miu Miu’s lunch celebrating Catherine Martin’s directorial debut at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival — and eagle-eyed fans noticed her voice sounded a bit different.
“whatever accent you want queen,” one user wrote on the outlet’s official TikTok account, while another added, “Me when I get a 100 day streak on Duolingo:.”
Other users, meanwhile, speculated that Agron’s accent stems from her past marriage to British musician Winston Marshall. (Agron and Marshall were married from 2016 to 2020.)

“i think bc she used to be married to a british guy,” one user wrote while speculating about Agron’s accent, while another claimed, “This happened to Madonna while she was married to Guy Richie [sic] —people develop this kind of half-British accent from the influence.”
Madonna, for her part, was accused in the early 2000s of faking a British accent while married to Guy Ritchie — which her rep responded to. Per E! News, the statement read, “She does naturally pick up on languages and sounds of people around her. It’s certainly not meant as an effect. When she’s back in New York for a while, she gets right into the New Yawk sound.”
Beverly Tatum, a psychologist and race relations expert, noted to Health.com that code-switching occurs when someone uses numerous languages or dialects while speaking.
“Generally speaking, code-switching is about finding effective ways to communicate with another person,” she told the outlet in January 2024. “If someone speaks to another person in a language the other person understands or in a style that puts that person at ease, the likelihood of making a connection with that person increases.”

Agron, for her part, also spoke in French while gushing to the outlet about being at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
“The thing that I love about film festivals is there is just so much camaraderie between filmmakers on either side of the camera,” she said. “It’s completely appropriate to talk about what you’re making, what you’re trying to put together, ask people for help, advice, anything that comes to mind. It does feel like camp in a way. A really fun camp, especially when you’re in this glamorous environment.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the Glee alum opened up about her stylistic changes through the years. “I think as I’ve gotten older, I’m really drawn to simplicity, timelessness,” she said, while wearing a flowy white dress with buttons. “This dress definitely speaks to that.”
