The Trump administration and Republicans in Congress are seemingly at war with the middle and working classes in the U.S.
Anything that helps the workers in Maine and in our country is targeted to be downsized or destroyed, like SNAP food benefits, LIHEAP so people can keep warm in the winter, and Medicaid/MaineCare. If people don’t have enough to eat, or not freeze in cold weather, or can’t afford to go to a doctor or hospital (if we still have them), that’s too bad apparently. Student loan costs are rising, too, and Medicare may be cut as well.
It seems like Republican representatives don’t care if we live or die. This is Robin Hood in reverse.
All these programs are being brutally shrunk or axed in a budget bill so there can be a tax cut, most of which will go to millionaires and billionaires. This will not be tax relief for working people; they might get a pittance, but they could just as easily wind up losing. If you’re not rich, get ready to struggle and suffer more. This is one big horrible bill.
I do not support a tax cut; I’d rather see the programs that benefited working people restored. But, if there were a tax cut, it could be done the same way as the rebates sent out during COVID-19. Checks would be for the same amount for every person, except those with wealth. That would be a more beautiful bill.
