Grimes is revealing why she dropped out of her upcoming World Pride Music Festival performance.
“Hello friends, I am so so sorry and regretful to say I have to cancel my pride show in order to deal with family issues,” the singer, 37, announced via X on Monday, May 26. “I want to say that I am aware the situation has been a great inconvenience to the fans for some time, and I am truly determined to make sure this is no longer the case very soon.”
She continued, “I think the show is still going to be amazing and the lineup is great. I hope this is early enough and gives people enough time if they wish to change their plans. And I *will* make this up to you guys very soon. So much love always

Grimes was originally scheduled to perform during the Washington, D.C. Pride event’s second day on Saturday, June 7. The festival’s star-studded lineup includes headliners Jennifer Lopez and Troye Sivan along with artists such as Paris Hilton, Rita Ora, Tinashe, Kim Petras, Raye, RuPaul, Betty Who and more.

The festival reposted Grimes’ social media post via Instagram on Monday and shared a statement of their own. “Lineup update: We’re sending love and support to Grimes during this time as she steps away to focus on personal matters,” the organization wrote via their Instagram Story. “We fully support her decision and are thinking of her and her family.”
Grimes has not publicly specified the “family issues” she is dealing with, nor has the event announced her festival replacement.
Grimes shares three kids with her ex Elon Musk: X Æ A-Xii, 5, Exa Dark Sideræl, 3, and Techno Mechanicus, 2. The pair dated on and off for four years before calling it quits for good in 2022.
Earlier this year, Grimes expressed disapproval after Musk, 53, brought their eldest son with him during a visit with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office. “He should not be in public like this,” she wrote via X in February. “I did not see this, thank u for alerting me. But I’m glad he was polite. Sigh.”
In a since-deleted X post later that month, Grimes asked her ex to respond to a “medical crisis” involving one of their children. “This requires immediate attention,” she wrote, per Page Six. “If you don’t want to talk to me can you please designate or hire someone who can do that we can move forward on solving this. This is urgent, Elon.”

She continued to criticize her son’s Oval Office appearance with Musk in March. “I have tried begging the public and my kids dad to keep them offline, and I’ve tried legal recourse. I follow you here I’ve seen young ppl destroyed by the internet too,” she wrote via X. “The state of my children’s lives being public is of grave concern to me and I think about how to solve this every day. It’s insane to me that theres no way to deal with this. I would hope there was some law that would allow a parent to veto small children from living public lives but I don’t even trust the law to help me now if I tried to invoke it tbh.”
Musk has not publicly addressed Grimes’ comments. Us Weekly reached out for comment at the time.
In March, Grimes revealed via X that she was diagnosed with ADHD and autism earlier this year and also believes she has dyslexia. “I feel a huge percentage of adhd is screen addiction and dopaminergic burn out,” she shared. “My adhd symptoms were infinitely worse when I wasn’t an avid reader. An adhd account trying to pathologize one of the best things a child can do to help with adhd (and also become an auto didact and knowledgeable person etc etc) is so dark … I can’t even begin.”
