3 Great Horror Movies You Should Watch in June 2025

The Memorial Day weekend may be over, but Watch With Us is still thinking about the long, restful holiday. Can you blame us?

That’s probably why we’ve selected three great war-centric horror movies you should watch in June 2025.

Two of these flicks aren’t that far away from standard World War II movies, while the middle pick envisions a different kind of world war that may claim the lives of everyone, no matter how far they run. It’s a summer full of frights here at Us, but in this case, that’s a good thing.

‘Overlord’ (2018)

There are seemingly endless World War II movies, but Overlord goes in some wild new directions by injecting a dose of horror into the story. On a mission behind enemy lines, an American war plane is shot down. The only survivors are Edward Boyce (Jovan Adepo), Lewis Ford (Wyatt Russell), Lyle Tibbet (John Magaro), Morton Chase (Iain De Caestecker) and Jacob Rosenfeld (Dominic Applewhite).

After taking shelter with a sympathetic local woman, Chloe Laurent (Mathilde Ollivier), the American soldiers learn about secret Nazi experiments on the other people in her village. The Nazis have already come up with a serum that can transform anyone into monsters with superhuman strength. Although the men are on an important mission for the Doomsday invasion of Normandy, shutting down these experiments takes top priority… even if it kills them.

Overlord is streaming on Shudder.

‘World War Z’ (2013)

World War Z features some of the fastest zombies we’ve ever seen on film, and that’s why they’re scarier than usual. Brad Pitt stars as Gerry Lane, an ex-United Nations investigator who has a first-hand look at a zombie outbreak that nearly claims his life and the lives of his family. In the immediate aftermath, the safety of Gerry’s family is used to blackmail him into searching for the origin of the zombie virus.

In theory, discovering the source may allow scientists to come up with a cure for the zombies. But finding those answers is anything but easy, especially since zombies are everywhere and any bad decisions could bring Gerry’s mission to a premature and terminal end.

World War Z is streaming on Paramount+.

‘Shadow in the Cloud’ (2020)

Shadow in the Cloud features Chloë Grace Moretz as Maude Garrett, a RAF pilot officer during World War II. In 1943, Maude embarks on a clandestine mission alongside the crew of an American B-17 bomber, almost all of whom go out of their way to make her feel unwelcome. While stuck traveling in a ball turret, Maude sees two threats to the plane: A Japanese fighter plane and some kind of winged gremlin.

However, Maude’s attempts to warn the crew largely fall on deaf ears. They simply don’t take Maude seriously, and that may prove to be a fatal mistake for everyone involved. Maude has her secrets, but she’s also the only one who realizes that this plane may never arrive at its final destination.

Shadow in the Cloud is streaming on Netflix.
