This year has already delivered some incredible films — but no season does a blockbuster quite like summer.

From Tom Cruise’s latest — and potentially final — addition to the Mission: Impossible franchise to Celine’s Song’s highly anticipated romantic comedy The Materialists, all genres are ripe for the picking for theatergoers as temperatures continue to rise.

“People call romances chick flicks,” Song told Time in May of her quest to bring respect back to romance films after her Oscar-nominated debut, Past Lives. “Of course it’s tied to misogyny. But when people say it’s not important, I ask, ‘Not as important as what?’ When you watch a movie, we don’t all know what it’s like to save the world. But we know what it’s like to fall in love. It’s the biggest drama in our lives. It’s vital, and we need to talk about it more.”

If staying home is more your speed, streaming services are also doling out A-list content. Consider John Cena and Idris Elba’s Heads of State: The duo star, respectively, as the president of the United States and prime minister of the United Kingdom in this Prime Video buddy action comedy that follows the world leaders as are they are targeted by assassins.

15 Must-Watch Movies on Hulu Right Now (May 2025)

“Once the movie starts, it doesn’t stop, and it starts with Air Force One getting destroyed,” Cena teased exclusively to Us Weekly in May of what to expect in the high-stakes flick. “We get to run the presidential beast through the paces in what is an epic car chase. I’m hung out of a bank vault from a 30-story building. We jump off a train, and that’s just getting warmed up.”

Keep scrolling for Us’ top summer movie recommendations of 2025:
