NBC’s newest travel competition show Destination X has Us intrigued — but how exactly does it work? Let host Jeffrey Dean Morgan explain.
In Us Weekly‘s exclusive clip, Morgan, 59, quipped that “there’s all sorts of s***” when it comes to the game before breaking down the rules.
“The game starts with players traveling together on a blacked out bus. When players get off the bus, they have no idea where they have gone or where they stopped,” he reveals. “Where in the X are they? Well that is up to them to figure out?”
Luckily, there will be “clues” to help the contestants.

“There’s going to be red herrings. You have to compete in challenges that are going to help you get a little bit closer to the answer,” Morgan teases. “If you are very close location then you get to stay. If you are not close then you are out of my game.”
The sneak peek also offered a glimpse at the group of people fighting for the $250,000 prize.
“There’s stuff you will recognize and stuff you won’t recognize. There’s stuff the players have probably studied and stuff they don’t know anything about,” Morgan adds. “Each week there will be a beautiful new location with less players until the best guess wins.”
According to the official description, Destination X is set in Europe, which turns into “a real-life gameboard as complete strangers are invited to participate in the trip of a lifetime and the ultimate geo-guessing contest. These adventurous players will traverse each country on a blacked-out Destination X bus with the goal of figuring out where the ‘X’ they are each week.”
Each episode will have the players leaving the bus to visit “unique and unfamiliar tourist attractions that have been gamified into experiential challenges.” They will need to rely on knowledge of pop culture, history, geography and observational skills to win clues. The synopsis teased how contestants must “tap into their own personal expertise, identify hidden clues that are disguised as artifacts and discern intentional misdirects from competitors to ultimately determine their whereabouts.”

The surprises don’t stop there though, with some familiar faces — including Love Island‘s JaNa Craig and The Bachelor‘s Peter Weber appearing on the adventure bus to shake up the game.
“Destination X has already captivated audiences around the world, and now we’re bringing a fresh, uniquely NBC twist to it — led by the endlessly charismatic Jeffrey Dean Morgan,” NBC’s Head of Unscripted Programming Sharon Vuong shared in a statement. “This series is the ultimate high stakes guessing game, inviting viewers to embark on a thrilling journey across Europe’s most iconic landscapes and landmarks, all while playing along with our adventurous, dynamic cast.”
Destination X premiers on NBC Tuesday, May 27, at 10 p.m. ET. New episodes stream the next day on Peacock.
