When Netflix announced it had renewed its hit rom-com series Nobody Wants This for a second season, fans instantly rejoiced knowing they’d more of Joanne and Noah’s love story.

The show, which premiered in September 2024, debuted with a 10 episode order, tracking the unlikely romance between sex podcaster Joanne (Kristen Bell) and “hot” rabbi Noah (Adam Brody). It received overwhelmingly positive reviews upon its release, and has remained in Netflix’s global top 10 since.

“Creating Nobody Wants This will forever be a career highlight for me,” show creator Erin Foster told Netflix in a story published October 10, 2024. “The incredible cast, crew, producers, and executives all made this into the show it is today, and to experience viewers’ reactions to this series now that it’s out in the world has been more than anything I could have dreamed.”

Season 1 ended with Noah appearing to give up his opportunity to be head rabbi at his synagogue in order to be with Joanne, who said she was not ready to convert to Judaism.

Is ‘Nobody Wants This’ Inspired by Erin and Sara Foster’s Real Life?

“What should he do? What should she do? What version of sacrifice is worth it? What constitutes growth, or what constitutes dimming yourself to be with someone else? It’s a sacrifice,” Brody explained to Netflix. “But ideally, you grow together and you’re better for it — you don’t have to [lop] off a limb.”

The series is sure to delve into those questions and more. For now, keep scrolling for everything we know about season 2 of Nobody Wants This.

What Is the Status of ‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 2?

Nobody Wants This has been renewed, and while it’s still too early to start thinking about release dates, if all goes well, season 2 could be on track to premiere later this year. Brody confirmed that the show would start filming again in February 2025.

In a November 1, 2024, appearance on Sirius XM’s Jeff Lewis Live radio show, Foster said things were moving along as scheduled.

“Have scripts been written? No,” she said. “But we just did script assignments yesterday, so deciding who’s going to write what, and we have the stories for all the episodes, and they’re in the process of being approved by Netflix.”

Jackie Tohn, who plays Esther Roklov, added in a November 7 appearance on “The Viall Files” podcast that filming will begin in early 2025.

“The writer’s room has been going for a minute now. Like over a month, maybe more, and so I think, February they’re saying,” she revealed.

In May 2025, Tohn celebrated the end of filming season 2 with a carousel of images from set. In one pic, Tohn hugged Bell and Justine Lupe.

“That’s a wrap on Nobody Wants This Season 2! So excited for everyone to see!!!” she wrote via Instagram. “I love these people so much and can’t believe we get to work (play) together. Here we goooo!”

Who Is Returning to the Cast?

Bell, Brody, Lupe, Tohn and Timothy Simons will return to the series while newcomers Leighton Meester and Miles Fowler are set to join.

Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, both Girls alumni, will join as co-showrunners, and Nora Silver (Single Drunk Female) will be an executive producer.

“I am excited beyond belief to be a part of Season 2 of Nobody Wants This, created by the hilarious Erin Foster,” Kaplan told Netflix. “It is such a unique and beautiful show, and I am already having the best time working on it.”

What Do We Know About the Plot of ‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 2?

Expect season 2 to begin more or less where the first one ended.

“I think we’ll pick up mostly more or less where we left off,” Foster told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published in October 2024. “Not the same night, but the same moment of, ‘So, what now? How do we do this?’”

Foster added that Netflix urged her not to move the story along too quickly in season 1, avoiding “manufactured time jumps” that wouldn’t let the audience “experience the minutiae of how a relationship unfolds.”

Tohn teased that she believes fans will continue to see that relationship unfold — and that it’s about to get real.

“I don’t think it’s going to be easy, but I think that they are going to have a relationship,” Tohn told Us Weekly exclusively. “I think since season 1 is so dreamland, they’re probably going to get into more real relationship-y stuff. I mean, they did do it a little bit with getting the ‘ick’ and her just being like, ‘This can’t work. What are we doing?’ But maybe just more relationship-y things. I mean, we’ll see.”

“I just think that the stories are going to expand and I leave it to our brilliant writers to tell us where that goes,” Tohn added. “We’ll see. We love some drama!”

Does ‘Nobody Wants This’ Have a Future Beyond Season 2?

With filming not even started yet on season 2, Foster already has ideas for a third installment. In fact, she told THR in October 2024 that she wants to keep going “as long as possible.”

“It’s funny because we’ve been in the writers room, and so we’re working on storylines, and we keep coming up with storylines and being like, ‘That’s for season 3. That’s for season 3,’” she said. “And we’re like, ‘Should we just make a board and pitch out season 3 to them at the same time?’ Because, we have ideas.”

What Do We Know About Leighton Meester’s Season 2 Character And Cast Dynamic?

News broke in February 2025 that Brody’s wife, Meester, would be joining the cast for season 2. She will play Abby, who Variety reported is Joanne’s “middle school nemesis who is now an Instagram mommy influencer.”

“We always work together. It’s baked into our contracts,” Brody teased about his and Meester’s upcoming collab while attending the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

He told The Hollywood Reporter at the time that Meester’s role came about organically. “They’re big fans of hers and she’s a big fan of the show,” Brody said in February 2025, joking. “Let’s consecrate it.”

Bell gushed about the addition of Meester while speaking with Extra at the SAG Awards, which she also hosted. “Meester is joining us on the second season of Nobody Wants This, which we’re really excited about,” she said, noting that the cast dynamic heading into the next installment is “delicious.”

Bell explained, “This cast is very close. We have a very active text change. Folding Leighton into it just seems natural and wonderful.”

How Does the Cast Feel About the New Scripts?

“I’ve seen a few,” Brody told THR of the new scripts at the February 2025 SAG Awards. He teased they were “positive” pages that filled him with “glee.” Brody added, “I cracked a smile [when I read them].”
