In an election for two seats on the Southwest Harbor Select Board on Tuesday, one of the seats came down to a single vote.
In the four-way race, incumbent Natasha Johnson was reelected with 226 votes, while Dan Norwood got 203 votes narrowly defeating incumbent Jim Valette, who received 202 votes.
The Mount Desert Islander reported that Valette initially requested a recount but withdrew his request on Wednesday morning saying that he had read about the science of optical voting machine scanning and found the accuracy to be so great that it was unlikely a recount would shift the tally by a vote.
The fourth candidate, Tom Benson, received 198 votes.
