Kelly Clarkson is hopeful she’ll have her “unicorn moment” post-divorce — she’s just too busy to think about a romantic relationship right now.
“I hope it does [happen for me],” she told Today’s Jenna Bush Hager in an interview about her new song “Where Have You Been” on Tuesday, May 6. “I will say, I’m not not looking and I’m not looking. I’m very busy. And you get this, as a mom, I’ve got to focus right now. So, it’s like, there’s a lot of work. Plus, I mean, my kids’ schedule? I feel like it’s busier than mine!”
Clarkson, 43, said she tries to be there for her kids, River Rose, 10, and Remy, 9 — whom she shares with her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock — as much as possible, but that it’s difficult at times.
“I’m running from my show to baseball practice and I’m trying to just be, like, there,” she told Bush Hager, 43, and guest cohost Matt Rogers. “It’s a lot. My mom will tell me, ‘Look, I was a single mom. I didn’t get to make [it to] everything. They’re gonna be fine. You turned out fine.’”

Clarkson added that her family is “a cute little unit,” but that she’s definitely trying to prioritize herself in this season of life.
“I am trying to adult more. So for Mother’s Day weekend I do have a couple shows, but my kids aren’t coming. So I do get to be an adult with my band, having drinks and having adult time,” she said.
The “Since You’ve Been Gone” singer is set to kick off her Las Vegas residency this summer at Caesars Palace — and it’s set to be her sexiest show yet. (It will run from July 4 to November 15, with 18 performances scheduled.) When discussing the music video for “Where Have You Been,” Clarkson admitted she wanted her look to feel sultry and that she finally got to have a say in her wardrobe.
“Look, I lost some weight and I was like, ‘You put me in something fitting!’ ‘Cause I don’t know how long this will last,” she said, laughing. “In all honesty, I’ve had a lot of people in my career be very cruel and say, like, ‘Oh, you look slutty if you wear this. You look “dadada” if you wear this.’ I’ve had people be very cruel. And so I’ve never been able to just, like, be what I want for that moment, for that song, what that character calls for, ’cause they’re all different characters, right? So, this was a really sexy moment. It’s a song about that intimate moment where you finally go, ‘Wow, I just found the unicorn situation and I did not know that was on the bingo card for my life.’ So, I wanted the sexiness for that so I had all the outfits made for it.”
The music video debuted on May 2 and already has over 1.3 million views.

Clarkson said the song was inspired by a scene in season 3 of Only Murders in the Building between Meryl Streep’s character, Loretta, and Martin Short’s Oliver.
“Everything that was in [Short’s] face when he said, ‘Where have you been,’ killed me,” Clarkson said of the moment. “I kept rewatching it because it was so beautiful and then I kind of took it to another place and wrote a song about it.”
