In theaters worldwide, Thunderbolts* is the most popular movie right now. On Amazon Prime, Another Simple Favor with Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick is all the rage.

But what’s popular on Netflix?

For the week of April 28 to May 4, the 10 most popular Netflix movies include an animated comedy about talking animals, a modern gothic romance starring a former Snow White and current Batman and an action movie you’ve probably never heard of.

Need more recommendations? Then check out the Best New Movies on Netflix, Max, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video and More, the Best Movies on Amazon Prime Video Right Now, the Best Movies on Hulu Right Now and the Must-See Movies on Netflix Right Now.

1. ‘Exterritorial’ (2025)

Every once in a while, a movie no one’s ever heard of will storm to the top of Netflix’s streaming charts. The latest one is Exterritorial, an action film starring Jeanne Goursaud as Sara, an Afghan War veteran whose son goes missing at the U.S. Consulate in Germany.

It’s an understatement to say that Sara is pissed off, and she’s on a quest to find her son and punish those who dared to take her child.

2. ‘Havoc’ (2025)

In this original action thriller, Tom Hardy stars as Patrick Walker, a jaded detective who has to protect a crooked politician’s son, Charlie (Justin Cornwall). A drug deal has just gone bad and the son knows a lot more than he is willing to share.

Now, Walker must deal with gun-happy drug dealers, corrupt cops and the son’s shady father, Lawrence (Forest Whitaker), to save the boy and expose a drug ring that could bring down the entire police force.

3. ‘The Equalizer 2’ (2018)

Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) is back to solve mysteries — and beat down some baddies — in The Equalizer 2. This time, the retired U.S. Marine is out to avenge the murder of a longtime friend, Susan (Melissa Leo).

Who murdered her, and why did they do it? Joining Washington in this successful sequel to the 2014 hit is Pedro Pascal as a former colleague of McCall’s, who may be involved with Susan’s death.

4. ‘Despicable Me 4’ (2024)

Those Minions just can’t be stopped! Those lovable lemmings return with their master, Gru (Steve Carell), for yet another brightly colored adventure in Despicable Me 4. This time around, Gru and his new family must go into hiding after an old classmate, Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell), wants to turn his son, Gru Jr. (Tara Strong), into a super-villain cockroach.

Hijinks ensue as Gru and his family assume new, mundane identities in bland suburbia to avoid being detected by Maxime. But Le Mal is craftier than Gru gives him credit for, and he’ll have to defend his family at any cost.

5. ‘Paul’ (2011)

Does extraterrestrial life exist? That’s what Graeme Willy (Simon Pegg) and Clive Gollings (Nick Frost) find out in Paul, an underrated 2011 comedy directed by Greg Mottola that’s being rediscovered on Netflix.

When an alien named Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen) asks them for help to reach his spaceship, the nerdy duo soon find themselves on a surreal road trip that will change their lives forever. Will their close encounter with a third kind bring the friends closer together? Or will one decide to beam up with the titular alien and leave the other forever?

6. ‘A Dog’s Way Home’ (2019)

When puppy Bella is left by her family at a farm in New Mexico, she’s determined to find her way back home to Denver. 400 miles is a long way to go, though, and she’ll need the help of a stray cat, some homeless people and other kind-hearted strangers to reunite with the only family she’s ever known.

A Dog’s Way Home features famous actors like Ashley Judd and Jonah Hauer-King, but the real star is dog Shelby, who plays Bella and easily outshines her human costars.

7. ‘Twilight’ (2008)

Hold on tight, spider monkeys, because the Twilight franchise is back on Netflix! Viewers are naturally streaming the first movie the most, which makes sense since it remains the best film in the series. (Sorry, Eclipse fans — it’s the truth.)

When teenager Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart)  moves to Forks, Washington, she finds herself isolated from her dad and peers. That changes when she meets Edward (Robert Pattinson), a mysterious boy at her school who is different from anyone she’s ever met. Bella soon finds out why — Edward is a vampire! But does he want her heart, or is he only after the blood that flows through her veins?

8. ‘Sisters’ (2015)

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are comedy legends, and they made their best movie yet with Sisters. When their parents decide to sell their childhood home, siblings Maura (Poehler) and Kate (Fey) decide to throw an epic party with their old high school friends (and a couple of frenemies).

As with all movie parties, things get out of hand, but the ensuing chaos only helps bring the two sisters closer together.

9. ‘American Sniper’ (2004)

Clint Eastwood’s critically acclaimed biographical war drama tells the true story of Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper), an Iraq War veteran who was known to be the deadliest marksman in U.S. military history.

The film follows Kyle’s life during the war and after, when he suffered from PTSD and struggled to deal with his mental health issues. American Sniper was one of 2014’s highest-grossing movies and its popularity continues to grow now that it’s on Netflix.

10. ‘The Secret Life of Pets’ (2016)

Ever wonder what Spot was up to when Dick and Jane went away for the day? The Secret Life of Pets answers that question with frequently hilarious results. The animated film follows lovable terrier Max (Louis C.K.), who teams up with new dog Duke (Eric Stonestreet) to battle an army of abandoned pets led by a nasty bunny named Snowball (Kevin Hart).

The Secret Life of Pets was made by Illumination Entertainment, the same masterminds behind the Despicable Me franchise. A successful sequel was released in 2019, and a third movie is in development.
