The man who died in a Portland house fire in March has been identified.
Douglas Grant, 36, of Portland died in the March 6 blaze on Olympia Street, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
His identity was released Tuesday as investigators with the state fire marshal’s office converged on Olympia Street.
The fire marshal’s office, along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Portland police and fire departments, continues to investigate the deadly blaze.
The fire broke out about 1:14 a.m. on March 6 at the Olympia Street home. When firefighters arrived, they found the one-and-half-story, single-family structure “heavily involved.” Crews were forced to evacuate the building because of the “intense fire conditions” and the home’s “failing structural integrity.”
Four other people inside at the time of the fire were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Olympia Street near the location of the fire will be closed to traffic through Thursday as investigators work the scene.
