BANGOR – Penquis C.A.P., Inc. has been awarded $85,423 by the Northeastern Workforce Development Board to pilot a new workforce program grounded in restorative practices. The initiative aims to address workforce challenges, improve employee retention and promote quality jobs across Penobscot and Piscataquis counties.
Restorative practices focus on building and strengthening relationships within organizations and communities. Penquis brings years of experience delivering restorative services through its Restorative Justice Program, primarily serving youth and schools. This pilot expands that expertise into the workforce, using restorative practices to address specific workplace challenges with program participants.
“Applying restorative practices to the workforce holds tremendous promise,” says Mindy Kane, division manager of youth programs for Penquis. “Penquis is eager to play a part in its development and help strengthen the workforce in Penobscot and Piscataquis counties.”
Galan Williamson, executive director of the Northeastern Workforce Development Board, adds that while the economy is continuing to rebound from the pandemic, not all sectors and populations are experiencing equal recovery, “Restorative practices can improve communication and the work environment to benefit workers and employers alike. That supports a stronger workforce, good jobs and a vibrant economy.”
