Scheana Shay didn’t just buy Adam Spott a penguin — she paid his rent too.
During the Friday, April 25, episode of her “Scheananigans” podcast, Shay recalled the number of times she would pay for a past partner.
“The amount of s*** I paid for — for men who weren’t even my boyfriend. Like Adam Spott, I used to pay his rent,” Shay, 39, claimed. “Because he was like, ‘I’m going to have to leave L.A. I can’t afford to stay here anymore.’”
Shay noted she was “making that season 7 money” as they filmed Vanderpump Rules, adding, “It was great. I was like, ‘I got you boo.’ I don’t know [how much money I gave].” (While Shay was a full-time cast member since season 1, Spott appeared on 17 episodes from 2018 to 2019.)

According to Shay, she shelled out a large amount. “I don’t want to think about the thousands of dollars I gave him that he said one day he’d give me back,” she added on Friday’s episode.
Vanderpump Rules viewers are very familiar with Shay’s romance with Spott, which came after her flings with Rob Valletta and Robby Hayes but before her marriage to husband Brock Davies.
Shay and Spott started dating in 2018 but weren’t on the same page about their relationship.
“We’re in the exact same place as we were where you’re watching the show right now,” Shay exclusively told Us Weekly in January 2019, referring to their situationship. “So, it hasn’t progressed, it hasn’t worsened. It’s just there.”
While filming the season 7 finale, Shay notably asked Spott whether he loved her — to which he said he didn’t. The situation earned its spot in VPR history when Shay told her costars she adopted a penguin in Spott’s name.

After a brief connection with Max Boyens, Shay ultimately moved on with Davies and they now share 4-year-old daughter Summer. Spott, for his part, stopped working at SUR and started dating Gabbie Owens. The couple got married earlier this month.
Despite Bravo fans getting used to Shay’s personal life taking center stage on Vanderpump Rules, the reality star is one of the cast members not returning for season 12 after an overhaul.
“We all were kind of in a place where we’re like, ‘OK, if it continues, great.’ I did think there was more story to tell. We’ll just be telling that somewhere else now,” Shay said during a December episode of her “Scheananigans” podcast. “But I think the women were kind of ready to move on to another platform to tell our stories.”
Shay noted she wasn’t worried about her future, adding, “I’m not distraught. I wasn’t shocked at all. I think the men — minus Brock — from what I’ve heard, took it the hardest. Definitely not the women.”
‘Vanderpump Rules’ Cast: Then and Now
At the time, Shay broke down why the news about season 12 didn’t come as a surprise to her.
“Any sad feelings that I have about not returning for season 12 are mostly not being able to work with that crew anymore. I loved the crew that we’ve had and hopefully, we’ll be able to work together on other projects because we became like a family,” she continued. “So that was definitely the hardest part. And the whole thing was bittersweet. It’s sad to say goodbye, but excited for the new servers and the next chapter of their lives.”
Shay concluded: “I am excited for new opportunities ahead outside of Vanderpump Rules, but I’m also a nostalgic person and it’s never easy to say goodbye. Lala [Kent] and I had a good cry about it on the podcast, something that was such a big part of my life for so long. But also I think it was time. Honestly, it all feels right. It’s still all happening. It’s just happening a little differently.”
