I would like to personally thank state Rep. Laurel Libby for standing with U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondy and explaining to the U.S. population that most Maine citizens do not agree with Gov. Janet Mills on allowing transgender students to participate in female sports, letting them into women’s restrooms and locker rooms and in women’s prisons.
It is hard to believe that Mills will litigate this issue and is going to use our limited Maine funds to go against the federal government while ignoring most Maine citizens. This comes especially at a time where the state has limited financial resources.
This reminds me of a time in the past when several states went against the federal government (Confederates) to fight for states’ rights (the rule of law) for an issue that was wrong (slavery); it did not work out very well. My hope is that common sense will eventually take over and Maine will allocate this time, effort and money on more fruitful and proper endeavors, like fixing our potholes for example or paying the hospitals.
Again, thank you Libby for speaking out for most of us Maine citizens and your commonsense approach to this issue.
