Seniors are the backbones of our society. They’ve worked their whole lives to raise families, build stronger communities, and contribute to healthy, thriving local economies for the benefit of future generations. Conservatives should be leading the way with policy solutions that protect and safeguard seniors, including taking care of their complex and evolving healthcare needs as they get older.
Tens of millions of seniors nationwide rely on the Medicare Advantage program to access high-quality, affordable health care. Compared to traditional Medicare, Medicare Advantage aligns more directly with free-market principles to encourage competition that helps deliver lower costs, more options, and higher-quality care and services for enrollees.
Unfortunately, Medicare Advantage was singled out for years of funding cuts during the Biden Administration, despite being a prime example of how the government and private sector can work together to improve health care access. With Republicans now firmly in control in Washington, they should work to cement conservatives’ legacy of supporting America’s seniors by protecting and fully funding Medicare Advantage.
For Maine Republicans like Sen. Susan Collins, I believe “conservative” means conserving what is worth saving from the past. I can’t think of a better way for Maine lawmakers to uphold that spirit of conservatism than to protect seniors’ access to the care they need by keeping Medicare Advantage strong for years to come.
