Ransom Canyon marks the second time Andrew Liner has found himself on the losing side of a love triangle — but that doesn’t mean he can’t get a do-over if season 2 reunites him with Vampire Academy costar Sisi Stringer.

Liner, 24, called Us Weekly‘s pitch for Stringer to play his Ransom Canyon love interest “really interesting,” adding, “There is something to say about being on the losing side of a love triangle, because oftentimes in the most dramatic ways of TV and movies, the guy who loses is obviously the best choice.”

The actor, who plays Reid, confirmed that “the door is open” for season 2.

“Reid is in a very complicated state of mind where he is ready to be truly bad or truly good,” Liner teased. “It’s the decision of whether or not he wants to lean into one or the other. So maybe he does find a girl and it’s them together forever — or maybe he’s going to go on a tear. I don’t know which way we’re going to go.”

Meet the Hot Cowboys From Netflix’s New Romantic Western ‘Ransom Canyon’

Before Ransom Canyon, Liner played Mason in Peacock’s short-lived adaptation of the Vampire Academy book series. Mason found himself caught up in a romance with Rose (Stringer), who also had feelings for Dimitri (Kieron Moore).

Ransom Canyon, meanwhile, put Reid through the wringer when the Western premiered on Thursday, April 17. He initially was mourning the loss of his cousin-in-law while fresh off a breakup with ex Lauren (Lizzy Greene).

As the first season unfolded, Reid found himself at odds with Lauren, his dad, Davis (Eoin Macken), and Lucas (Garrett Wareing). While Reid and Lucas — and Lauren — ended on good terms, it might not be that way for long.

“He should have never gone against his family. He was trying to do the right thing and he’s figuring out what is right for him. He’s constantly in this battle of what is good,” he explained, referring to Reid going against his dad. “I think that the most interesting stuff is going to be with his dad, with his mom and figuring out that world. Because we don’t get to see much of it in season 1 — even though it’s discussed a lot and we get to see glimpses. I am very fascinated with that.”

Liner praised Ransom Canyon for finding the time to invest in Reid’s potential friendship with Lucas.

“There is something to say about male friendships in general. It feels like it is a deep love,” he explained to Us. “So I think that having that you see them come together as friends — because they’re not from jump — is a version of its own love story. But maybe it’s not as romantic.”

Best Love Triangles in TV and Movie History Over the Years

When it comes to potential onscreen romances, the ball is in our court, with Greene, 21, telling Us, “Things are set up where everyone is in a love triangle in season 1 because it opens the door for the audience to say what they like. Then also hopefully we get another season. It gives our writers and everyone an opportunity to see what people like and then lean into it more season 2.”

Greene sounded hopeful about where Lucas, Lauren and Reid could end up.

“There is still a lot of love there and a lot of care for each other. That is kind of where everyone sits [because] there’s no animosity toward anybody. Everyone loves and cares about everyone,” she shared. “That’s why it ends up so well is because while they are butting heads in the beginning, they both really admire each other.”

Ransom Canyon is currently streaming on Netflix.
