A New York man will spend 16 years in prison for a 2017 slaying in Whitneyville.
A Washington County judge handed down that sentence against Basilio Liranzo, 29, on Thursday, according to CBS affiliate WABI.
He pleaded guilty to arson and murder, and as part of a plea deal, prosecutors dismissed a robbery charge against him, WABI reported.
Liranzo was among three people charged with arson, murder and robbery in the death of 48-year-old Wayne Foss of Whitneyville.
Firefighters found Foss’ body after they extinguished a blaze at his Middle Road mobile home in the early morning hours on Oct. 28, 2017. His death was ruled a homicide.
Foss’ death is among a slew in recent years linked to drugs in Washington County. Police had conducted simultaneous drug busts at his home and another home in Trescott eight months before Foss died.
It wasn’t until 2023 that police finally made arrests in the case. Justin Matthews, formerly of Pembroke, was arrested in Saco on Sept. 21, 2023, and Liranzo and Leanza Boney of Staten Island were arrested days later.
