A Stockton Springs general store has closed down less than a year after it opened with new owners.
The owners of Cutterman’s Variety Story closed their doors on Sunday after being unable to reach a new agreement with their landlords.
“Today marks a bittersweet day for Cutterman’s Variety as it will be our last day in business,” the owners said on Facebook. “Unfortunately, despite our best efforts in negotiations with the property owner, we were unable to reach a resolution.”
Nathan Nole, who has served in the U.S. Coast Guard, opened the business last June, with a name that refers to the people who operate the service’s cutter vessels, according to the Midcoast Villager. The space was previously known as Perry’s Store.
The store frequently promoted its pizzas, sandwiches, French fries, seafood and other offerings on social media. Some area residents responded to the announcement of the closure to share their dismay and support for the business.
“We want to express our deep love for this community — we are your neighbors, and we truly hope to see a thriving store here in the future,” the owners said. “To that end, we’ve even connected potential new owners with the property.”
Representatives of Cutterman’s could not be reached for comment.
