Former University of Maine All-Hockey East winger Bradly Nadeau earned his first National Hockey League point for his Carolina Hurricanes in Wednesday night’s 4-2 loss at Montreal.

Nadeau earned the primary assist on Tyson Jost’s third period goal.

Nadeau was called up from the American Hockey League’s Chicago Wolves along with Skyler Brind’Amour, Domenick Fensore and Riley Stillman.

Nadeau was named to the AHL’s All-Rookie team earlier in the day. He leads all AHL rookies in goals with 30 and he is second in points with 56.

The 19-year-old Nadeau became just the sixth AHL player since 1940 to score 30 goals before reaching the age of 20. And he is just the third since 1950.

Nadeau picked up an assist by getting to the Montreal net front and, while battling for position with Canadiens defenseman Kaiden Guhle, he was able to get his stick on a wrist shot from the point by Dmitry Orlov.

Canadiens goalie Sam Montembeault made the save on Nadeau’s deflection but, in the ensuing scramble, the puck squirted across to Montembeault’s right and Jost tapped it into the open net from the edge of the crease.

Nadeau was an All-Hockey East second team and All-Hockey East Rookie Team selection a year ago when he led the Black Bears in scoring with 46 points on a team-high 19 goals and 27 assists in 37 games.

The former first round draft pick (30th overall) of the Hurricanes signed with the NHL team after the Black Bears lost to Cornell 3-1 in the NCAA Tournament’s Springfield Regional and he made his NHL debut in a regular season-ending 6-3 loss to Columbus. He didn’t register a point.

In addition to his assist, Nadeau led all players on both teams in shots on goal with six. He played 13 minutes and one second and had one hit. He wound up minus-one in plus-minus.

A player receives a plus-one if he is on the ice when his team scores an even-strength or shorthanded goal and a minus one if the opponent scores one.

Nadeau was also expected to play in the Hurricanes’ season-ending game at Ottawa on Thursday night.

The Hurricanes have already locked up a Stanley Cup playoff spot and will face New Jersey in their Eastern Conference best-of-seven first-round series.
