April marks Youth Month for credit unions across the nation, and Downeast Credit Union is proudly celebrating at all eight of its locations throughout Maine. This annual event highlights the importance of saving and financial education, encouraging young individuals to build strong financial habits early in life.

Youth Month is an opportunity for credit unions to amplify their commitment to financial education and partner with organizations to support financial well-being, especially among young members. Downeast Credit Union is excited to help young account holders kickstart their savings journey with special Youth Month offerings:

  • $10 Deposit Match: All new youth accounts opened in April will receive a $10 deposit match from Downeast.
  • Exclusive 12-Month CD Special: Youth accounts will qualify for a special 12-month certificate of deposit (CD) rate of 4.50 percent APY (on balances of $100 up to $1,000), designed to maximize savings potential.
  • $100 Giveaway: Students ages 13 to 21 can take part in our cash giveaway. Take the DECU Youth Challenge on their website by April 30th to enter one of two $100 drawings.

Beyond savings, Youth Month is also about giving back to the community. Downeast will be collecting school snack donations at all branches to support local schools and food pantries as part of its Ending Hunger in Maine Campaign.

At Downeast Credit Union, we are dedicated to helping our members achieve their financial goals. Our certified credit union financial counselors are here to guide young members on their journey toward financial success because a healthy financial tomorrow begins today. By nurturing financial literacy from an early age, we aim to lay the foundation for a strong and stable future.
