A 24-year-old Ellsworth man has been charged in relation to a string of motor vehicle thefts in Hancock County going back more than three months.
The first report came on Jan. 4 when the Lewiston Police Department requested help locating a stolen 2024 GMC Sierra that was subsequently found in Eastbrook, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
On Jan. 16, an ATV was reported stolen from a Trenton business, and two days later on Jan. 18, a truck was reported stolen from a residence in Gouldsboro.
On March 4, the sheriff’s office received a report that a 2000 Ford Super Duty F-350 had been stolen from a home in Franklin. The truck was recovered soon after, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office charged Jacob Britton on April 4 with multiple counts of theft, unauthorized use of property and aggravated criminal mischief in relation to all of the reported thefts except the Jan. 18 Gouldsboro report.
Britton has been given a date to appear in Ellsworth District Court, according to the sheriff’s office.
