Two Bangor men have been accused of drunken driving behind the wheel of the same car.
Manoach Bizumuremyi, 27, and Muhoza Bizumuremyi, 28, who are brothers, have been charged with operating under the influence, according to Sgt. Jason McAmbley, a spokesperson for the Bangor Police Department.
The Bizumuremyis were allegedly driving erratically about 9 p.m. Wednesday when they came close to colliding with another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle followed them and later told police they witnessed “multiple traffic violations.”
The Bizumuremyis stopped in a parking lot on outer Broadway, and the witness stopped as well, according to McAmbley.
When Officer Ty Adams arrived at the scene, the witness told him that the driver and passenger had swapped seats at one point before eventually stopping at that parking lot, McAmbley said Thursday morning.
Both Bizumuremyis were outside the car when Adams arrived.
During questioning at the scene, the Bizumuremyis reportedly admitted to Adams that they both had been driving the car and that neither of them should have been driving,
Manoach Bizumuremyi had a blood alcohol level of 0.23 percent, while Muhoza Bizumuremyi had a blood alcohol level of 0.17 percent.
The brothers were taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where they remained Thursday morning.
