The president of Northern Light Health is retiring.
Timothy Dentry, who also serves as CEO, has led the Brewer-based health care system for five years. Northern Light Health credited Dentry with leading the system through the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Together, we confidently navigated one of the most challenging and unprecedented crises in our century—the COVID-19 pandemic … Whether you served on the front lines or supported our caregivers, you all have made me a better leader by being witness to your unwavering greatness. You not only rose to this challenge with grace, compassionately caring for our patients who were suffering from this evolving virus, but you did so with grit—a true form of grit that is unique to Maine,” Dentry said in a message to the system’s workforce.
Before becoming president and CEO, Dentry served as the system’s chief operating officer, a position he rose to in 2016.
John Ryan, chair of Northern Light’s board of directors, on Tuesday praised Dentry for serving Maine not only with “confidence and strength,” but also “heart and compassion.”
“Through his tenure, he has led from the front, with his heart, and has inspired positive action and change during exceptionally challenging times. He has been the right leader at the right time,” Ryan said in a statement.
Dentry’s departure comes at a time as Northern Light Health grapples with financial turmoil, a period that has seen it shed services, announce the closure of its Waterville hospital and the departure of several other high-level leaders.
Northern Light Health’s board of directors is working to find his successor.
