A spring storm has brought slick road conditions to much of Maine on Thursday morning.
Mainers, however, will see lower amounts of accumulation after dry air delayed the arrival of snow and reduced precipitation totals, according to the National Weather Service office in Caribou.
The storm begins with a mix of snow and sleet. That will change to rain Thursday afternoon when temperatures rise above freezing.
Greater Bangor is forecast to see less than an inch of snow, with similar amounts expected in Ellsworth and Bar Harbor. The accumulation increases somewhat to the east, where 1-2 inches are forecast for Machias and Eastport.
The heaviest accumulation — relatively speaking — will be in The County, with 2-3 inches forecast from Presque Isle to Fort Kent and possibly as high as 4 inches around Madawaska.
Sleet accumulation looks more uniform across eastern and northern Maine, with about 0.2 inches expected.
Thursday’s wintry mess, however, will give way to more clement weather Friday, with sunshine and temperatures potentially climbing in some more fortunate towns into the 50s, according to CBS affiliate WGME.
