I would like to thank U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, for her leadership in introducing the American Apprenticeship Act with Sen. Amy Klobuchar, (D-Minnesota). This bipartisan effort seeks to address workforce shortages by expanding access to apprenticeships and providing tuition assistance to train skilled workers and strengthen our economy.
Small business owners often struggle to find qualified workers. Apprenticeships offer a proven solution, equipping individuals with hands-on training for high-demand careers. By reducing financial barriers, the American Apprenticeship Act could help more Mainers access job training opportunities.
This bill would provide grants to states that promote and expand apprenticeship programs, cover costs such as tuition and equipment, and align training with in-demand jobs. It would ensure apprenticeships remain a viable, accessible pathway to stable employment.
Along with the JOBS Act, which expands access to short-term job training programs, Collins continues to support workforce development. These initiatives create career opportunities and strengthen Maine’s economy. Constituents in my district often express the need for more trained workers to fill essential roles, and these efforts could go a long way in addressing that concern.
Thank you, Sen. Collins, for your commitment to Maine workers and businesses.
Rep. Dean Cray
