BANGOR – Northern Light Health is proud to continue its support of organ and tissue donation. Each April, Northern Light Health honors donors who chose to give organ and tissue donations at their death, as well as their supporting families, recipients and those who wait for transplant during Donate Life Month. There is no greater gift than the gift of life, and the decision to make a difference begins with you.
Northern Light Health works in partnership with New England Donor Services to procure organs from suitable donors, then NEDS facilitates these organs going to transplant centers. Northern Light Health fosters this partnership in providing essential support of organ and tissue donation, although its hospitals do not perform transplants.
In 2024 Northern Light Health hospitals are pleased to contribute to Donate Life efforts, including:
Eastern Maine Medical Center supported 21 organ donors, resulting in 51 transplants.
Three kidneys, two double lungs, four lungs, three hearts, and one liver were accepted to research programs.
Northern Light Health hospitals accounted for 53 tissue donors. From these donors, a total of 126 tissues were donated.
