Jenna Bush Hager’s 5-year-old son, Hal, has some strong feelings about her and her husband Henry Hager’s relationship.
“We are in this moment, and I wonder if any of y’all relate, where our youngest son is jealous of our romance,” Bush Hager, 43, shared while cohosting Today With Jenna & Friends with Hager, 46, on Friday, March 28.
Hager went on to give a recent example of Hal’s romantic jealousy, telling viewers, “We were all in the kitchen and he was eating and everybody was quite happy. And we went over and I gave you a kiss, just a nice little kiss, a little peck, and Hal just started bawling crying.”
Hager described Hal’s reaction to the kiss as “total devastation,” while Bush Hager quipped, “It was as if Hal and I are dating, and you swiped in and stole him from me.”

According to Bush Hager, her husband proceeded to tell their son, “’The reason you’re born is ‘cause your mom and I like each other,’” before going in for another kiss. “Just to antagonize the poor guy,” she joked.
Hager said he “needed to let him know there’s boundaries,” adding, “You’re my spouse, you know, and he can’t move in on my wife.”
The couple wed in 2008 and became parents with the birth of their daughter Mila in April 2013. Their family continued to grow after welcoming daughter Poppy in August 2015 and Hal in August 2019.
Hager is one of many guest hosts to join Bush Hager on the fourth hour of Today following Hoda Kotb’s exit from the NBC morning show earlier this year. Hager rounded out the show’s “Family Week” of guest hosts, which also included Bush Hager’s twin sister, Barbara Bush, and cousins Wendy Stapleton and Sam Bush LeBlond.
Bush Hager previously revealed there’s one family member she won’t allow to cohost the show with her — her eldest daughter, Mila. “She said something very controversial,” she recalled of Mila’s last appearance on Today in December 2022 in a January interview with E! News. “Therefore, my husband gave her a lifetime ban. We’ll see if that’s lifted maybe for bring your kids to work day. But she hasn’t been always the most supportive, let’s just say that.”
It was during the December 2022 episode that Mila dropped some “truth bombs” about Bush Hager, stating her mother one time laughed so hard she peed her pants and claimed Bush Hager “never wears underwear.”
Mila and her siblings appeared in a video message on the Thursday, March 27, episode of Jenna & Friends to wish their dad “good luck” with hosting. “I bet you’re going to do the best,” Hal stated, while Mila added, “Dad, good luck. Do what you practiced in the car ‘cause it was really good. Good luck, Dad!”
Hager called the surprise message “so sweet,” while Bush Hager revealed that Mila did the “best impersonation” of Hager practicing for the hosting gig in the car. “She was like, ‘And then, Dad was like, ‘You know, I’m just gonna be authentic. I’m just gonna lead from my heart. And I’m just gonna say all the ways I love mom,’’” Bush Hager said while imitating her daughter.
