Just because The Conners is ending doesn’t mean Lecy Goranson wants to stop playing Becky.
“I don’t want a break. I would love a spinoff,” Goranson, 50, exclusively told Us Weekly ahead of the ABC show’s seventh and final season. “I imagine that might be complicated but I would love that. I love my colleagues so much and the crew.”
Goranson noted that many people involved with The Conners have been working on the franchise since the original Roseanne sitcom premiered in 1988.
“We have a really, really long history. When you are around people every day like that, it’s very much like family. It sounds stereotypical but it does feel that way,” she shared. “I set up a happy hour meeting for the crew and we’re always saying, ‘How do we get together again? What’s our next project together?’ It’s very sincere. We all feel this way.”

Roseanne, which aired from 1988 to 1997, introduced Us to the Conner family. After being briefly revived in 2018, Roseanne became The Conners following Roseanne Barr’s exit from the series. Goranson, for her part, has played Becky Conner — a role she has shared with Sarah Chalke over the years.
“I think one of the things that I was hoping that did happen [when wrapping up The Conners] was knowing that they were going on with their lives. So it wasn’t like, ‘Oh my gosh, there’s a lightning bolt and there go the Connors,’” she quipped. “I hope that it would give you an imagination of Becky — who’s been through so much — that you knew that there was some hope in her future. Not hoping to win the lottery but hopefully finishing her degree and having her romance and having her daughter in a good place and her relationship.”
She continued: “Becky has been through so much. When I see people who watch the show, they say, ‘Oh my God, we’re rooting for Becky.’ It’s really nice to feel that investment and I’m also rooting for her.”
One of Goranson’s ideas for a spinoff? A show that follows Becky’s romance with boyfriend Tyler (Sean Astin).
“[Sean] is definitely the sweetest person. He’s so genuine. This is someone that’s been in so many big movies. My first date was to go to The Goonies. So of course I had to tease him about that,” she told Us. “But we also had just amazing chemistry. We were such super nerds about loving our work and he always had a script notated. He had things that he wanted to try and he would note what he was thinking about exploring on screen. We both came in really excited to bring stuff to the table and explore that chemistry.”
Goranson loved exploring Becky and Tyler’s ups and downs, adding, “That’s part of the interesting thing about that exploration. We were both super committed to it and it was just absolutely wonderful working with him. So when we are doing the spinoff, it’s OK to have Sean come back.”
The Conners returns for its final season on ABC Wednesday, March 26, at 8 p.m. ET.
