The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for information about a Massachusetts man who disappeared in Portland nearly 20 years ago.
Miguel Oliveras, then 24, of Hyde Park, Massachusetts, was last seen alive about 1 a.m. on Sept. 2, 2006, at the Platinum Plus Club on Riverside Street, according to the FBI.
He was last seen wearing a gray camouflage long-sleeve shirt with a white T-shirt over it, green cargo shorts and white sneakers.
The FBI described Oliveras as a Hispanic man with black hair and brown eyes, about 5-foot-11 and weighing about 170 pounds at the time of his disappearance. He had tattoos on his neck, back, shoulder and hand.
He would be 44 today.
Since that day in 2006, there has been no sighting of Oliveras.
The Portland Police Department and FBI held a joint press conference Tuesday to announce the $10,000 reward for information leading to finding Oliveras or his remains.
“Despite exhaustive investigative efforts by law enforcement over the last two decades, we are unable to locate Miguel Oliveras,” said Jodi Cohen, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Boston division. “Our goal with this $10,000 reward is to incentivize anyone with information about Miguel’s whereabouts to come forward so we can find him and provide his family with some much-needed closure.”
Portland Police Chief Mark Dubois called the search for Oliveras a “priority” for his department and Oliveras’ family.
“Nothing has changed,” Miguel’s mother, Myrna Oliveras, said Tuesday. “More frustration, more anger, it has been a long time. I just want to find him and bring him home. I need people to come forward.”
Anyone with information about Miguel Oliveras’ whereabouts can call the Portland Police Department at 207-814-8584 or the FBI’s Boston office at 1-800-CALL-FBI. Tips can also be submitted online at tips.fbi.gov.
