The Bangor Water District on Thursday issued a notice to some residents to boil their water after a water main break on Cedar Street.
The Water District said it cannot guarantee that the water main had positive pressure during the repair, potentially allowing contaminants to enter the water supply.
Additionally the utility said residents may have air in their water lines, which can cause the water to sputter, hiss or become cloudy when running a faucet. If this happens, run the cold water tap for a few minutes until it clears, the utility said.
The repair was scheduled to be finished on Thursday afternoon.
After the air is removed from the water main, the Water District will collect samples from three areas in the boil-water zone to test.
When the samples indicate the water is safe to consume, the boil-water notice will be lifted and residents will receive a notice on their door. Additionally, the Water District will post an update to Facebook.
