I am writing regarding Maine LD 21, “An Act to Update the Provision of Law Concerning Student Codes of Conduct in Order to Reflect Best Practices Regarding Behavioral Threat Assessment and Response.”
This important bill, introduced in the 132nd Maine Legislature, aims to modernize student codes of conduct to incorporate best practices for assessing and responding to behavioral threats in schools. As a concerned citizen, I believe this legislation deserves our attention and support.
The bill was referred to the Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs on Jan. 6. A public hearing was held on March 13, and a work session is scheduled for March 20. I encourage our community to engage with this process and provide input on this crucial matter affecting our students’ safety and well-being.
By updating our approach to behavioral threats, we can create safer learning environments and better support students who may be struggling. I urge our legislators to carefully consider this bill and its potential impact on our education system.
