After a dominant regular season for the Duke Blue Devils, Cooper Flagg has also dominated the Atlantic Coast Conference season honors.
The freshman from Newport, Maine, has been named both ACC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, becoming just the fourth player in conference history to win both of those awards in the same season.
Flagg received an “overwhelming” share of player-of-the-year votes from a panel of ACC head coaches and members of the media, according to the conference. The ACC tally shows Flagg brought home 76 of the 81 total votes. Coaches cannot vote for their own players.
The freshman phenom secured all but one of the 81 votes for rookie of the year to lead the ACC All-Rookie Team, and also earned a spot on the conference All-Defensive Team with the second highest votes in that category behind Chucky Hepburn of Louisville.
Flagg also brought home All-ACC First Team honors, and has set the record for most ACC Rookie of the Week recognitions with 12 for the season. He has led the team in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals — a feat that hadn’t been accomplished in the ACC for 25 years.
Duke heads into the ACC tournament ranked first overall in the country, and first in the ACC. The team’s first conference tournament game will be on Thursday.
