A father and his son have been jailed for raping a 16-year-old girl.

Hugh and Cameron Mullen repeatedly raped the teenager while she was intoxicated with alcohol.

The pair denied any wrongdoing, but were last month found guilty following a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh.

Hugh, 42, was jailed for nine years when he returned to the dock a week later.

At the High Court in Glasgow on Thursday, Cameron, 21, was handed an extended sentence of seven-and-a-half years, with five-and-a-half years in prison and two years on licence once released back into the community.

Judge Lord Lake said the girl was raped “multiple times”, adding: “Your victim was young, very drunk and unable to look after herself. You took advantage of her in that state.”

The attack occurred at a house in Blairgowrie, Perthshire, in April 2023.

Jurors heard how the Mullens took the teenager to the address after meeting her in Perth city centre.

The girl said she had been socialising with friends and could remember being on a bus.

Recalling the journey, she said: “The driver asked if I was alright. The younger one said ‘she’s my sister’. They helped me off the bus.”

The girl said she passed out in the moments before the attack and when she “came to”, Hugh was raping her.

Lord Lake stated both men attacked the girl and “it appears that you each watched while the other raped her”.

The judge said: “Your victim suffered a terrifying ordeal.

“The trial heard evidence of her state afterwards. She was so upset she would not allow others to help her and ultimately police had to restrain her for her own safety.

“Her suffering has lasted long after the attack. I have considered the victim impact statement which indicates that the consequences are continuing and are significant.”

Hugh – who was additionally convicted of attempting to pervert the course of justice at police headquarters in Dundee the day after the serious sexual assault – denied inducing the girl away from her friends by offering her free cannabis.

He also claimed to be in the living room while his son and the teenager were upstairs.

When the jury returned its guilty verdict, Hugh proclaimed his innocence, adding: “I can’t believe this. I am shocked.”

As well as the jail terms, both men were also added to the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.

Cameron was additionally banned from contacting the victim for 15 years.

Detective Constable Murray Scott said: “Hugh and Cameron Mullen will now face the consequences of their despicable actions.”
