Investing in clean and renewable energy is a commonsense way to help reduce harmful carbon emissions, protect our environment, and increase the resiliency of communities across the state, particularly along the coast. It is also just a smart move for Maine’s economy and workforce, with the production of clean energy and related technologies supporting thousands of jobs and spurring business growth throughout the state.

Sen. Susan Collins should continue to help advance smart policies that increase investments in our state’s clean and renewable energy economy and workforce, while also protecting existing clean energy tax credits passed as part of the Inflation Reduction Act. These credits have been essential in helping Maine residents and businesses make climate-smart energy decisions that benefit our environment and economy, while providing critical cost savings. We finally have some momentum, stopping now would be unfortunate.

In 2023, renewable resources accounted for two-thirds of the total electricity generated in-state, according to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. That includes the power from wind, solar, hydro, and tidal energy resources that are produced in communities across the state.

I have worked with dozens of renewable producers in Maine for decades. We know Collins will continue being a voice of reason in Congress. It is my hope that her voice will support forward-thinking energy policies that enable us to continue moving toward a cleaner, more sustainable, and a more economically secure future.
