One woman is dead and another is in critical condition after an incident in the Kennebec County town of Readfield.
Maine State Police and the Winthrop police were called to a home on Giles Road just after 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.
Police found a woman dead outside the home and another woman injured inside. The injured woman was brought to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and is listed in critical condition, Moss said. The state chief medical examiner’s office will perform an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of the deceased woman’s death.
The suspect, an adult man, fled the scene and was later taken into custody by a state police trooper a short distance from the home.
He was brought to Maine General Hospital in Augusta for evaluation.
The two victims and the suspect were related, Moss said.
There is no danger to the public, Moss said. Police have not released any of the names of the people involved.
No additional information was immediately available.
