
A major storm will cross Maine from Sunday into Monday, bringing with it heavy snow, sleet, ice, and gusty winds.
The storm is tracking from southwest to northeast, with northern Maine expected to see the heaviest snowfall, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou.
In central Maine, isolated power outages are possible.
Northern Maine
A winter storm warning is in effect from 9 a.m. Sunday through 1 p.m. Monday.
Snow totals between 10 and 20 inches are expected, with wind gusts reaching 45 mph on Monday. The weather service warned of localized whiteout conditions, especially across the open agricultural areas of Aroostook and northern Penobscot counties.
Central and Eastern Maine
In southern Piscataquis, northern Washington, and central Penobscot counties, heavy mixed precipitation is expected. Snow and sleet accumulations will range from 6 to 10 inches, with a light glaze of ice.
The Bangor area, stretching to central Washington and inland Hancock counties, could see 5 to 8 inches of snow and sleet, along with a coating of ice. Winds may gust up to 35 mph, with isolated power outages possible.
Western and Interior Maine
In central Somerset, northern Franklin, and northern Oxford counties, a winter storm watch remains in effect until 5 a.m. Monday. Snow will turn to sleet and freezing rain, with snow totals reaching 8 to 13 inches. Wind gusts up to 45 mph are expected.
Western and Southern Maine
In western and southwestern Maine, a winter storm warning remains in effect until 3 a.m. Monday. A total of 4 to 6 inches of snow is expected, bringing storm totals to 6 to 9 inches, plus about an inch of sleet and ice.
The midcoast region remains under a storm warning until 1 a.m. Monday, with another 3 to 5 inches of snow expected, for a total of 5 to 8 inches, plus sleet and ice.
