A significant winter storm moves into Maine this weekend.

Wind will be a factor for Mainers on Friday ahead of an impactful winter storm for Saturday evening through Sunday evening.

A wind advisory goes into effect from 10 a.m. through 7 p.m. Friday for gusts out of the northwest up to 45 mph.

Some isolated power outages could be on the table.

Friday starts out bright before more clouds move in Saturday ahead of the impactful winter storm.

Mainers along the coastal plain should expect 4 to 8 inches of snow and sleet from Saturday night through Sunday night.

The mountains should expect up to 16 inches.

This will primarily be a snow event Saturday evening through Sunday morning before a switch over to sleet and some freezing rain is expected early Sunday morning.

The mountains, where the accumulations will be the highest, will stay all snow.

By Sunday morning, a heavier snow band will move into southern Maine.

Temperatures will start in the teens and single digits.

Sleet and some freezing rain will begin to mix in by late morning and early afternoon from south to north.

Snow will continue to shift inland and over the mountains.

Freezing rain and sleet will begin to add up along the coastline by Sunday afternoon and evening.

Heavy snow continues across the north.

Winds pick up along the immediate coast throughout Sunday.

If any icing does add up, Mainers along the coastline could be dealing with power outages.

The storm moves out by Monday morning. Look for a brighter, colder and blustery start to next week.
