A fourth-term Republican lawmaker has been indicted for alleged signature forgery.
An Oxford County grand jury handed down the indictment against Rep. Randall Hall of Wilton on Wednesday, according to ABC affiliate WMTW.
The indictment alleges that Hall forged 10 signatures on documents for Maine’s clean election program in April 2024, WMTW reported.
He has been charged with aggravated forgery, unsworn falsification and criminal violation of the Maine Clean Election Act, according to the TV station.
Hall won reelection to represent House District 74 with 66 percent of the vote over Democrat Gregory Kimber.
House District 74 comprises Industry, New Vineyard, Strong, Wilton, Avon, Carthage, Temple, Weld, Perkins Township, Washington Township, New Portland and South Franklin.
In February 2023, Waldoboro Democrat Clinton Collamore resigned from the Legislature after he was accused of submitting 30 fraudulent signatures to qualify for Maine’s clean election program. He was ultimately sentenced to 72 hours in jail for unsworn falsification and violating the Maine Clean Election Act, while aggravated forgery charges were dismissed as part of a plea deal.
