Bitcoin To Hit $1.5 Million By 2030? ARK Invest’s Cathie Wood Says Odds Are Rising

US-based investment management firm ARK Invest’s CEO, Cathie Wood, predicts that Bitcoin (BTC) is on track to reach $1.5 million by 2030. In a recent YouTube video, Wood stated that despite the market’s temporary pullback, the odds of BTC hitting this ambitious price target have increased.

Wood Doubles Down On Bitcoin

After a spectacular 2024 in terms of price appreciation, BTC is currently trading within a tight range of $92,000 to $104,000. At the time of writing, the flagship cryptocurrency is valued at $95,575.

Despite recent price fluctuations, Wood remains bullish on BTC’s long-term potential. In a YouTube video published yesterday, the American investor expressed growing confidence in Bitcoin surpassing the $1.5 million mark. She remarked:

Many people know us for our [Bitcoin] bull case, $1.5 million. We actually think the odds have gone up that our bull case will be the right number, because of what is becoming the institutionalization of this new asset class.

Wood emphasized that an increasing number of institutional investors worldwide view BTC as an emerging asset with a unique risk-return profile. Unlike traditional investments, Bitcoin’s distinct characteristics are compelling large investors to incorporate it into their portfolios.

Institutional interest in BTC has skyrocketed since January 2024, following the US Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) approval of spot BTC exchange-traded funds (ETFs). According to the latest data from SoSoValue, total net assets under spot BTC ETFs currently stand at $111.78 billion.

As more institutional capital flows into BTC ETFs, Bitcoin’s price may rise accordingly. ARK Invest’s Big Ideas 2025 report projects that BTC could reach $1.5 million under its “bull case” scenario by 2030.

BTC Price Depends On Its Growth Rate

According to ARK Invest, BTC would need to maintain an average compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 58% over the next five years to achieve the $1.5 million price target by 2030. The chart below illustrates these projections in detail.

Alternatively, if BTC follows ARK’s “base case” scenario, growing at 40% CAGR, it could reach $710,000 by 2030. Meanwhile, under a more conservative “bear case” scenario – where BTC grows at 21% CAGR – its price would rise to $300,000 over the same period.

ARK’s BTC price forecasts align with those of several other analysts and financial institutions. For instance, Standard Chartered analyst Geoff Kendrick recently projected that BTC could surge to $200,000 by the end of 2025. Additionally, a weakening US dollar may act as a catalyst that accelerates Bitcoin’s price growth.

However, concerns persist regarding BTC’s store-of-value narrative. A recent report suggested that, despite its long-term potential, Bitcoin is still predominantly treated as a speculative asset. At press time, BTC trades at $95,575, down 2.2% in the past 24 hours.
