Kylie Kelce’s dad had a lot of thoughts about her dating Jason Kelce in the early stages of their relationship.
“My dad was appalled,” Kylie, 32, admitted during her “Call Her Daddy” podcast appearance on Wednesday, February 12. “My dad was not happy. He was actually very disturbed.”
She joked, “He was like, ‘Do not ruin this. Do not ruin this for me.’”
Kylie explained that her father, Ed McDevitt, was the “last person” she wanted to tell about her relationship with Jason, who was at the height of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles when he and Kylie met.
“I knew he would be like, ‘You’re not a bimbo.’ … My dad is very much [a] girl dad. [He’s] protective, going to make sure that you hold yourself the right way and that you present yourself well,” she said.

Kylie explained that her father always told her and sister Aubrey McDevitt that they should never be “dependent” on their significant other.
“You always need to make sure that you have your own stuff going on, that you could always support yourself if anything were to ever happen,” she said. “He was the one I was most concerned about.”
Kylie recalled eavesdropping on her sister talking to their dad about Jason before she chimed in and shared the big news. (Kylie and Jason got married in April 2018. They share three daughters — Wyatt, 5, Ellie, 4, and Bennett, 2 — and have a fourth little girl on the way.)
“We had a coming to Jesus moment,” Kylie recalled. “Then my sister was like, ‘She knows him.’”
Eventually, Jason met the family at Kylie’s aunt’s house in Philadelphia, which ended up being another surprise.
“He was like, ‘What are you doing tonight?’ I was like, ‘Going to my aunt’s house, we’re going to have burgers and hang out.’ He was like, ‘Oh.’ I was like, ‘Do you want to come?’ He was like, ‘Yeah, OK,’” Kylie recalled. “He met the family that I’m closest with.”

This was the first time her dad came face-to-face with Jason.
“He did not fangirl, and he wasn’t a hard ass. My dad is very warm and fuzzy. He will not stop talking if you paid him,” she explained. “He talked to him and afterwards was like, ‘He’s actually nothing like I would have thought a professional athlete would have been.’ He just came in, sat down, my aunt’s feeding him shrimp and burgers.”
Kylie confessed that her mom, Lisa McDevitt, was more wary of Jason.
“I think I get my skepticism from my mom,” Kylie said. “She loved him, but she was like, ‘OK.’”
