
Heavy snow is expected to impact travel through northern and central Maine on Thursday, with some precipitation expected in southern areas.
According to the National Weather Service, around 5 to 9 inches of snow mixed with ice could fall across most of Aroostook County and some central, inland communities on Thursday.
Southern Maine can expect anywhere from 2 to 4 inches of precipitation on Thursday.
Snowfall is expected to start early Thursday morning, and will likely continue through the evening, with periods where more than 1 inch of snowfall per hour is expected. Forecasters also expect wind gusts that will create whiteout conditions throughout the day.
Winds will also be high along the coast of Maine on Thursday, with a gale warning in effect from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday.
Temperatures will be in the negatives Thursday morning, with overnight lows falling to -7F in some areas on Wednesday night. Daytime temperatures will reach the high 20s to mid 30s, with some areas experiencing around-freezing temperatures.
Travel will be messy throughout the day on Thursday, and a number of parking bans have been issued in communities around Maine.
