I am in despair over the path our new president and his cronies are dragging us down. Democracy is crumbling before us, and I am fearful that out of the ashes will rise not the phoenix but the eagle of the Third Reich.
Who are we? What are we becoming? And why are so few showing the level of outrage that this dark moment should elicit? Where are the leaders who are willing to fight for our great republic?
Why are people not gathering in town squares and city streets all over the nation to demonstrate against the horrible threats being perpetrated by this administration? Many are writing and calling our senators and representatives. I have called their offices and written emails, but it doesn’t feel like enough.
Our members of our legislative bodies at both the state and national level need to speak out loudly and courageously against the illegal and corrupt mandates spewing daily from the White House. Our nation’s judges and attorneys general must hold President Donald Trump and his minions accountable for their rapid-fire assaults on our Constitution.
We, the people, need to stand up and make our voices heard, not cower in silence and complacency. To be complacent is to be complicit in the demise of our very unique and beloved country.
