Head coach Andy Reid is already thinking about what the Kansas City Chiefs can learn from their 2025 Super Bowl loss.

Reid, 66, spoke to reporters after the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, February 9, admitting that it was a “rough day” for his team.

“I’m proud of our guys, though,” Reid continued in the press conference. “We’ll learn from this, like most games here when you don’t do very well. You learn from it as a coach and learn from it as a player and move on.”

Reid explained that every loss is disappointing, no matter if there’s a Super Bowl trophy — or a historic three-peat victory — on the line.

“Listen, they all hurt,” he said. “You get this far — you battled your tail off to get this far. [It’s] very, very hard to do. And, you know, we spend a lot of time doing this. It’s not a hobby, right? So, we’re in it the whole way. And spend a lot of hours doing it as players, as coaches. So, it’s going to hurt.”

He added, “They all hurt when you get to this level and these things happen — three-peat aside or any of that stuff. You get this far and you don’t play as well as you want to, it hurts.”

Despite all the hype surrounding the Chiefs’ potential to make history with a third consecutive Super Bowl win, Reid doesn’t think the team lost due to the pressure. “It’s best against best,” he said. “So, I think we were more focused on that than three-peats and all that stuff. That wasn’t the issue.”

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes also addressed the upset via social media, sending a message to Chiefs fans who supported the team throughout the season.

“Appreciate all the love and support from #ChiefsKingdom,” he wrote. “I let y’all down today. I’ll always continue to work and try and learn and be better for it.”

The 28-year-old continued, “Want to give thanks to God for every opportunity he has given me. We will be back.”

Travis Kelce, meanwhile, appeared somber as he discussed the loss with reporters. “Hats off to the Eagles, man. They got after us. All three phases,” he said, noting that the Chiefs’ offense “couldn’t get it going” all game. “They just got after us on all three phases, and on top of that, turnovers, penalties, playing behind the sticks on offense … dropped passes, not taking advantage of the play call and executing them. There’s a lot that goes into it. You don’t lose like that without everything going bad.”

The Eagles were ready for redemption after previously losing to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII in 2023. Head coach Nick Sirianni got emotional while celebrating the big win with his family on the field on Sunday.
