
The late William (Bill) Shorey was selected Maine County Commissioner of the Month of January in honor of his community service by Spirit of America Foundation’s Maine Chapter.
Bill served as a commissioner of Waldo County from 2009 until his passing on Dec. 12, 2024 and was its chair for many years.
Shorey was a member of Searsport Lions Club for almost 35 years and organized and cooked at countless fundraising events to benefit those in need. He served two years as Maine Lions District 41-I governor and the next two years as chair of Multiple District 41.
Shorey served Searsport Water District as a trustee for over 30 years and was its chair for 28-plus years. He also was on the SAD 56 School Board for four years, including two years as chair. In addition he served terms on Searsport’s Planning Board and on its Appeals Board.
